This is a second-level veterinarian position accountable for managing and coordinating a variety of programs for care of livestock or companion animals or exercising statewide responsibility for a more narrowly focused effort. Work involves the inspection of livestock markets, slaughter establishments, and poultry and animal care facilities to ensure compliance with state and federal statutes and regulations. Employees in these positions make diagnostic and epidemiological decisions and recommendations based upon analysis and interpretation of test results. They may also provide supervision or serve as an expert in a specific area.
In addition to those identified in the previous level: Knowledge in a specialized area of veterinary medicine. Ability to train, supervise, plan, and evaluate the work of employees.
Graduation from an accredited College of Veterinary Medicine and 2 or more years of experience as a veterinarian involving the care and treatment of animals. (Substitutions may be allowed.)
