This is a first-level commissioned supervisory position that requires status as a sworn police officer and will be accountable for supervising the activities of all commissioned investigator levels within an assigned unit and who are involved in investigation activities of a variety of potential crimes and criminal activity or administrative/regulatory violations. This includes statewide investigations of cases that are often sensitive in nature, unprecedented, and may involve political implications and repercussions. Employee supervision includes hire recommendations, training, planning and assigning work, performance assessment, coaching, and progressive discipline. Supervision at this level also requires these jobs to have the knowledge and skills to perform the work overseen and the ability to assess equipment needs and effectiveness and recommend purchases. Work includes performing custodial arrest, executing the legal process, providing testimony in court, attending ongoing training.
In addition to those identified in the previous levels: Knowledge of civil and criminal justice procedures employed in the prosecution and adjudication of alleged law violations. Knowledge of the functions and interrelationships of federal, state, county, and municipal law enforcement and fire service agencies.
Bachelor’s degree, 3 or more years of relevant experience, and relevant certification/licensure including Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST).
