General summary

This is a supervisory position located in the State’s central budget office responsible for the review of agency budgets and the statewide budget and overseeing budget professionals working within those programs. Supervises employees who are responsible for budget development within their assigned area and for reviewing, revising, and/or developing budget processes. Employees at this level present the budget to upper management. Employee supervision includes hire recommendations, training, planning and assigning work, performance assessment, coaching, and progressive discipline. Supervision at this level also requires employees to have the knowledge and skills to perform and review the work overseen.   

Knowledge, skills & abilities

In addition to those identified in the previous levels: Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective supervision and training. Skill in clearly and concisely presenting and explaining financial budget information and its impact. Ability to provide direction, guidance, and mentorship to professional employees engaged in budget activities and processes. Ability to analyze legislation and its impact on agency budgets.

Typical qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of relevant experience. (Substitutions may be allowed.)
