General summary

This is a managerial/chief economist position accountable for complex, statewide economic research. Such positions are accountable for performing highly specialized professional work in the areas of economic analysis and planning and forecasting as they pertain to the various facets of state fiscal conditions and policy. Employees at this level supervise professional economics staff. Employee supervision includes hire recommendations, training, planning and assigning work, performance assessment, coaching, and progressive discipline. Supervisory responsibilities at this level also require employees to have the knowledge and skills to perform and review the work overseen.  

Knowledge, skills & abilities

In addition to those identified in the previous levels: Knowledge of, and familiarity with, the methods used in establishing samples, devising comprehensive surveys and research projects, and performing statistical analyses involving the application of statistical measures. 

Typical qualifications

Master’s degree and 4-6 years of relevant experience or a Doctorate degree. (Substitutions may be allowed.)
