This is a professional position accountable for reviewing construction plans, blueprints, architectural drawings, and/or specifications for complex structures and/or systems and performing inspection activities that require advanced knowledge of the theory, principles, and practices of structural, mechanical, and/or electrical systems design, including seismic and lateral analysis. At this level, employees have the technical ability and authority to challenge the engineering aspects of designs; and ability to provide code interpretation, guidance, and counsel on highly technical engineering issues, technologies, and concepts. Employees have the ability to approve or reject (or make recommendations to approve or reject) construction plans and drawings per compliance requirements. Employees in this class may provide technical guidance to lower-level employees.
In addition to those identified in the previous levels: Ability to analyze program operations and make decisions in accordance with appropriate laws and regulations. Ability to consult with and advise others on designs and operational features in the assigned specialty area. Ability to analyze and interpret statistical data, and to present results with clarity and precision. Ability to testify as an expert witness under cross-examination.
Bachelor’s Degree and 2-4 years of relevant experience. May require advanced certification. (Substitutions may be allowed.)
