Construction Project Supervisor

General summary

This is a supervisory position accountable for planning, coordinating, and directing new construction, repair, and preventative maintenance for facilities and infra-structure under the control of a state agency. Employees work with agency staff, field staff, public officials, architects, engineers, surveyors, and contractors on new construction, repairs, and physical plant maintenance issues. Employees offer resolutions to technical and procedural problems. An employee plans, coordinates, and directs new construction and preventative maintenance and repair projects. Supervise staff and ensure projects are completed according to established timeframes and within outlined specifications. Employee supervision includes hire recommendations, training, planning and assigning work, performance assessment, coaching, and progressive discipline.

Knowledge, skills & abilities

In addition to those identified at the previous levels: Skill in identifying technical and procedural problems and providing resolutions. Ability to interpret and apply building codes, environmental regulations, and safety codes. Ability to train, mentor, coach, and develop skills of staff. Ability to plan, coordinate, schedule, and oversee construction projects.

Typical qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and 3 or more years of experience in construction projects. (Substitutions may be allowed.)
